Københavns fajancefabrik Aluminia skriver sin historie tilbage til året
1862, hvor den blev grundlagt af August Schiøttt (1834 - 1863). I 1868 overtog Philip Schou
fabrikken og flyttede produktionen til Frederiksberg. I 1882 købte han Den
kongelige Porcelænsfabrik og de to fabrikker blev slået sammen til én.
Produktionen af fajance levede sit eget stille liv i skyggen af den blomstrende
interesse for kunstindustri produktion hos Royal Copenhagen.

| Baca (Latin: Ring)
BACA was the last of
the many series that was a result of the long life experiences and
experiments of the Artist Nils Thorsson. First mentioned internally in
1964, where it was mentioned that the series was developed on the basis of
a new silkscreening technique. The technique used by him and a number of
younger artists gives the pieces a character of their own, by closely
interwoven patterns in subtle colours. It was named BACA, which is the
Latin word for “ring”. The signature of the artist is therefore shown
in a ring on the back of each piece in the series. Most of the forms were
designed by Nils Thorsson (NT). Ellen Malmer (EM) designed 14 forms and a
few were designed by the other artists:
Johanna Gerber (JG), Beth Breyen (BB), Inge Lise Koefoed (IK) Anne
Marie Trolle (AT) and Ivan Weiss (IW). The 94 different forms are known
with 105 different decorations. The items are marked with two numbers. The
first number is the form number (above the line) and the number under the
line is the decoration number. So
there will be a total number of about 200 different BACA-items. Also the
first three annual mugs of the years 1967, 1968 and 1969 in two sizes were
BACA-decorated. In addition to that BACA-tiles were used for Modern Danish
furniture from Haslev and the BACA was used for a number of commemorative
jars, vases and plates.

Denmark has a faience tradition which is more
than two hundred years old. At the beginning of the eighteenth century the
first faience factory was established in Copenhagen, and other soon
followed. Although it was originally influenced by foreign models, Danish
Faience quickly showed its own characteristics, but it was not until the
World Fair in St. Louis in 1904 that Danish Faience art, as represented by
the ceramic ware produced by Aluminia Factory, aroused International
interest. It was an entirely original production of vases, bowls etc.
decorated with splendid, rich under glaze colors in blues, greens, reds,
yellows, browns and purples. For the next 25 years this Aluminia faience
helped consolidate Denmark's name as a leading country in the field of
ceramic |
TENERA
Tenera was born at one of the studios at the Royal Copenhagen Porcelain
Manufactory. Six young women-ceramist from Norway, Sweden and Denmark
worked here for a number of years and created a series of characteristic
faiences which are now known and appreciated throughout the world behind
Tenera is threefold: the experience of Nils Thorsson, who worked as a
ceramist at the Royal Copenhagen Porcelain Manufactory for over 50 years -
the artistic tradition of the three Scandinavian countries and the six
artists' own inspiration.
The Scandinavian studio was a happy place; each piece reflects this
mood, and gives justification to the name TENERA, which means "The
young - The Budding - The Spirited."
